Australian Breed Standard

As the smallest of the retrievers, the shoulder height should be 48 - 51cm for males over 18 months and 45 - 48cm for females over 18 months.  Although 3cm over or under shoulder height is allowed.

They have a thick double coat which is water repellent and smooth on the face.  Their desired colours are various shades of red or orange with lighter feathering behind the ears and on the legs.

As they are bred to resemble the fox they should have the white markings on the chest, blaze, feet and tip of tail. A blaze on the face and a white tip on their tail is optional.

Weight should be in proportion to the height of the dog, 17kg to 23kg.  The Toller should appear strong and well muscled with webbed feet for swimming.

Their tail should be luxuriant and heavily feathered, and when alert it curves over his back, but not touching his body.

The Toller has a kind gentle temperament and is confident, intelligent and easy to train.  He moves with a jaunty swinging gait, single tracking at the trot.
